What is traveline ? It's a service which provides impartial journey planning information about all public transport services - buses, coaches, trains, ferries, tram, metro and underground - throughout England, Wales and Scotland. At present it offers information based on details in published timetables - but some areas provide more detailed information. How Can I contact traveline by phone ? You can phone traveline from anywhere on 0870 608 2 608. National call rates charges apply - so a typical call lasting 2 minutes might cost between 5p off-peak to 16p at peak times, depending on the telephone service used. The number can also be dialled from most Countries abroad, +44 870 608 2 608. The service is available everywhere between 7am and 9pm every day (except 25 and 26 December and 1st January); call centres in some areas provide local transport information over longer hours. Please note that calls may be recorded for training and analysis purposes. Is traveline always the best service to use ? We recommend anyone who wants information just about train services to use the National Rail Enquiry Service (NRES) on 08457 48 49 50 (minicon : 0845 60 50 600) because they have details of fares and up-to-the-minute details of any service changes. Likewise, we recommend those who only want information about coach travel to check with National Express on 08705 80 80 80 or Scottish Citylink on 08705 50 50 50. Can traveline answer questions by e-mail ? Sorry - but our service is not organised to answer individual enquiries by e-mail. Please use an appropriate web-based journey planner (if one is available) - or contact traveline by phone. Who runs traveline ? Partnerships of PTEs, local authorities, bus operators and others have been formaed in each region of the Country and these partnerships have made arrangements to run traveline in their areas. They collect and organise all of the timetable information, provide systems to search out answers and arrange for phone calls to be answered. They are also busy arranging to provide the self service journey planners on the internet, to which this site is part of. Who pays for traveline ? Each region has agreed its own way of sharing costs of doing all this. Most regions have accepted the Government's offer of funds (mainly in the form of local authority borrowings) to help set up their systems - but the cost of running the system is being met by the authorities and operators in each region. Can I telephone a specific traveline call centre ? Yes. If you want to call the South East Wales call centre key-in 51 as soon as you hear the greeting message start. For South West Wales key-in 52, North and Mid Wales use 53 or key-in 54 if you wish to conduct your enquiry in Welsh.
